Established in 1999,
Kent Mixon Architect is a young firm dedicated to producing innovative
and environmentally sensitive design solutions that meet the needs
of the client. Principal architect, Kent Mixon, is a licensed architect,
with over ten years of custom residential and commercial design experience
and a strong commitment to the creation of quality architecture.
Kent earned his bachelor of architecture degree from California Polytechnic
State University, San Luis Obispo in 1992. Since 1985 he has worked
for various architectural firms, establishing his own firm after five
years experience in the Santa Barbara area. His completed projects
include new custom homes, extensive residential remodels, commercial
spaces, tenant improvements, guest homes and bathhouses.
While studying architecture at Cal Poly, Kent focused his studies
on environmentally responsible and passive solar design. His interest
in passive solar architecture continues today and is reflected in design
solutions that optimize the building’s livability as it relates
to daylighting, ventilation and energy use. In addition, Kent turns
his attention toward the environmentally responsible use of building
materials —carefully evaluating not only the selection of new
materials, but planning for the proper disposal of materials and the
potential reuse of existing elements.
Kent is a board member of The Sustainability Project. As a member of
The Sustainability Project, Kent recently co-authored the building
materials section of the Green Building Guidelines for the County of
Santa Barbara.
Kent and his associates believe that the most successful projects
are a collaborative effort. They are, without question, team players—continuously
striving to maintain an efficient, productive and harmonious relationship
between the client, contractor, consultants, and architect.
